Daniel Hannan — A Letter of Warning to America
A journalist and author, Daniel Hannan has been a British member of the European Parliament since 1999. He first came to wide notice in the United States when he made a speech on the floor of the European Parliament addressing the then-prime minister of Great Britain, Gordon Brown, about his disastrous economic policies. Hannan’s latest book is A New Road to Serfdom: A Letter of Warning to America. Read the review here.
ECONOMIC FUNDAMENTALS
AN UNDERSTANDABLE PRIMER OF CURRENT ISSUES
Dr. Gary Becker is the Founder of the Chicago School of Economics, Nobel Prize Winner, and the Rose-Marie and Jack R. Anderson Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution. Dr Becker discusses, with Hoover research fellow Peter Robinson, a series of economic themes and questions as shown in the following five (5) video clips
(time listed Min:Sec; Uploaded by Hoover Institution on Nov 9th & 10th , 2010).

(5:49) Discussion of the Bush administration’s response to the financial crisis:
(7:26) Discussion of the response of the U.S. Federal Reserve to the financial crisis:
Small and Medium sized businesses are not expanding because of the adverse regulatory environment. This is the most fundamental problem why banks are not lending more of the one trillion dollars of reserves available. (4:32-4:56)
(7:39) Discussion of why Obamacare will increase health costs, rather than contain them:
Switzerland example: 30% of out of pocket expenses by individual. U.S. requires only 12%.
(9:38) What is to be done? Discussion of a pro-growth prescription for lifting the U.S. economy out of its prolonged malaise:
Bottom line: Dr. Becker trusts the common sense of the American people to evaluate the steps that have been taken, and when they sense those steps are not working, they will elect representatives who will take the country in a new direction. The movement called the TEA Party is a reflection of exactly this. Government needs to shrink not grow. Individuals need to re-assume more responsibility for their local affairs if they want to restore and maintain their liberty.
